Get Involved

Help us care for our newest neighbors.

Many of our talented volunteers make handmade items for babies in our community. But there are so many other ways to help, even if you’ve never mastered sewing, knitting, or crocheting!

Neighbors Helping Newborns is an all-volunteer organization, so there are always jobs waiting for willing hands! Read on to find the perfect project for you.

Sew, Knit, or Crochet

If you can sew, knit, or crochet, Neighbors Helping Newborns needs you! Bring your knitting needles, crochet hooks, or sewing machine to the next work group meeting so we can put you to work making customized clothing, blankets, and quilts for hospitalized babies.

To help you get started, here’s a size chart with details for some of our most requested items.

Many volunteers also work from home to complete projects throughout the month, so contact us if you would like us to send you patterns for the specialized items we sew, knit, and crochet.

Pack, Sort, or Cut

If you don’t sew or knit, come to a work meeting and lend a hand with other tasks, such as sorting donations, cutting out patterns, and packaging infant clothing. You can make a difference in the lives of local families in crisis!

Donate Baby Clothes

We collect new and gently worn infant clothing (size “Newborn”, “Preemie”, or “0-3 mos.”) that hospitals can send home with babies who lack the basic necessities. There is an urgent need for layette items like sleepers, onesies, socks and cardigans, as well as crib-size quilts and receiving blankets.

Donate Fabric or Yarn

The majority of our projects are created from donated materials. We are grateful for donations of:

  • Children’s flannel fabric (in lengths of 1+ yards)
  • Solid-color Jersey cotton fabric (t-shirt knit)
  • Cotton-blend fabric (for clothing and quilts)
  • Polar fleece
  • Yarn (#3 sport- or baby-weight acrylic yarn in pastels, solid or patterns)

Provide Monetary Support

Cash donations help keep our non-profit running! We gladly accept online donations, as well as donations by mail.

Gift cards to Walmart, Target, BabiesRUs, Kohl’s, and Staples are also greatly appreciated because they help us fill in the gaps when we are running low on specific supplies.

Deliver

Do you live or work near one of the hospitals that we serve? Help us deliver our donations each month!
